About Us

Wake up to a beautiful sunrise…or sleep in, wiggle your toes in the sand, read a book or spend an afternoon simply taking in the sights and sounds of the water then sidle up to an evening bonfire.

Our Story

Where It All Began

Scotland Yards started with one beach house, Summerlee, and grew to twelve – all in the same tiny beach community on the Chesapeake Bay. Renovated houses sited on sandy beaches in a natural setting – far away from the hustle and bustle yet only 2 hours driving distance Washington, DC, we’re a convenient escape from the rat-race where the sound of the waves and the beauty of nature restores you. Today, Scotland Yards  welcomes many return guests who make this their “home-away-from-home.”  And, many are multi-generational. We love that sense of ownership.  We’re proud of helping people get away, families re-connect and groups gather.  So, whether you are a solo looking for a getaway or short-term lodging, whether your group is multi-generational looking for one large house or whether you are a group looking for lodging for forty+ – all in walking distance – Scotland Yards can meet your needs.  Turn-key – linens, soaps and cleaning products provided.  Scotland Yards – over ten years of helping people get away.

“In love with Scotland, Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.”
Peggy Binzel

In the Spotlight

History of the Area

The fourth oldest English settlement in the US, the area is rich in history. St. Mary’s City, the capital of Maryland for 64 years until 1694 is 10 miles away. Less than two miles away is beautiful Point Lookout State Park. Built as a resort hotel just prior to the Civil War, Pt. Lookout ultimately became a Union prisoner-of-war camp for captured confederates. The British landed here in the War of 1812. Then home to a different kind of war later in the 19th century – the oyster wars between pirates and legal oystermen in Maryland and Virginia.

Today, the focus is on more peaceful activities like farming, fishing, boating and water activities. Oysters are once more booming from a combination of recovery efforts and oyster farming, helping to filter and preserve the Chesapeake Bay.
