History of the Area
The fourth oldest English settlement in the US, the area is rich in history. St. Mary’s City, the capital of Maryland for 64 years until 1694 is 10 miles away. Less than two miles away is beautiful Point Lookout State Park. Built as a resort hotel just prior to the Civil War, Pt. Lookout ultimately became a Union prisoner-of-war camp for captured confederates. The British landed here in the War of 1812. Then home to a different kind of war later in the 19th century – the oyster wars between pirates and legal oystermen in Maryland and Virginia.
Today, the focus is on more peaceful activities like farming, fishing, boating and water activities. Oysters are once more booming from a combination of recovery efforts and oyster farming, helping to filter and preserve the Chesapeake Bay.

What People are Saying

“A Great Find”
"Everything about this house is 5 stars! From the luxury of the furniture, the quality of the mattresses , the amazing service - they even give you fresh clean beach and linen towels! Detergent! Shampoo! It was like staying in a 5 stars hotel - but with an ocean front view and the space of a house! Every room had a bathroom- which is a plus! - the view, the eagles! The kayaks - we would definitely come back next year for more than a week!"

“Unbelievable location and perfect home”
"The home is even better than the pictures!! We didn't realize how private, quiet, and spacious the small community was! The views were breathtaking, and the atmosphere was just so calm. This home provides its own entertainment whether you enjoy, biking, kayaking, stargazing, fishing, or just chilling out on the airy decks. This is the place to go for some tranquility and rejuvenation!! Not to forget that Peggy was so pleasant to work with and accommodated all our needs before our stay and during!! Kudos to Peggy for a home well done!"

“Beautiful house in a secluded location”
"My husband and I came here with our dog for a short 3-day getaway. Clean house, beautifully decorated, and less than a 5 minute walk from the beach which was just down the street. Bigger grocery stores were a half hour drive, but you can find everything you need in the Dollar General or local market 10 mins away. We had the beach to ourselves most of the time with only maybe 1 or 2 other couples/families dropping in once a while. Definitely make sure to put on bug spray before going to the beach, especially in the evenings. We would definitely love to return next summer!"

"Very Relaxing!"
"There is more than enough room for two people and our two beagles as well. The pictures give an excellent representation of the property. We enjoyed the decorations. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics. Everything is in excellent shape: furniture, bathroom, dishes, pots and pans, TV, linens, towels..."
